Nicotiana sp. (Nicotiana)
Common Names: Nicotiana, Tobacco
 
Description: Nicotiana sp. (Nicotiana) is a member of the Solanaceae (Nightshade) family.  The Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 1 recorded seven species native to America, China, New South Wales (Australia), Peru, and Vera Cruz with N. tabacum (tobacco) and N. rustica (Aztec tobacco) being introduced into cultivation in Britain as early as 1570.  There are 67 known species at this time.
